 John Monaco

“MOONDANCE TO ETERNITY lifts the veil on one of the great unmentionables in our society: physical death. This is an elegant reminder that death is a natural part of life, not something to be rejected and denied.”

LARRY DOSSEY, MD

“. . . at the very moment of death—when patients, families, doctors and support staff have all resigned themselves to the inevitable—there is an other-worldly peace that becomes palpable in the room, something approaching the miraculous. It is precisely that moment that I want to write about.” --  John Monaco, M.D

John Monaco, M.D. is originally from the Northeast, having migrated to Florida after completing medical school at SUNY at Buffalo in 1981. He trained in general pediatrics and pediatric critical care at the University of Florida, then moved to Louisville, KY, where he established the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Audubon Hospital. After returning to Florida in 1992, he has spent most of his professional time running the inpatient pediatric unit at Brandon Regional Hospital outside of Tampa with his two partners.

In 1999, Dr. Monaco co-authored Slim and Fit Kids, Raising Healthy Children in a Fast Food World, published by Health Communications, Inc. The book offers solutions and strategies to deal with the childhood obesity epidemic while stressing the importance of prevention through healthy diet and lifestyle. He continues to lecture and consult on this important societal issue. He has been a monthly contributor to Pediatric for Parents for more years than he can remember and wishes to express his gratitude to the editor for allowing him this rewarding opportunity.

Dr. Monaco and his wife have two teenage children and spend as much time as they can wandering their wooded acreage in Gainesville, FL with their beloved yellow lab, Gracie.

Sheree Slone, RN is a native of Florida and resides there today with her husband and son. Sheree worked as a registered nurse from 1977 - 1987 at Tampa General Hospital and James A. Haley Veterans Hospital. She has also written a children’s book titled Moon Over Dolphin Lagoon and developed The One and Only...Me!, a CD-ROM that encourages children to follow their inner wisdom and guidance.
